One of the world's largest financial centres, Hong Kong is also home to many great buildings and icons. Now incorporated into the PRC, the handover of Hong Kong to China on 1 July 1997 symbolised for many the end of the British Empire. The city today is home to thousands of high-rise buildings and skyscrapers, glass monoliths, statues, parks, cultural centers and grand temples.
